BAM South Tower, Brooklyn
The BAM South Tower sits in downtown Brooklyn’s BAM Cultural District, a collection of theaters, museums, and libraries surrounding the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The tower, located at 286 Ashland Place, is as eclectic as its surrounding neighborhood from the façade to the interior style and amenities. Upon entering the lobby you’re met with Continental’s handy work through the application of walnut and white oak paneling throughout the lobby entry rooms, rec room, and even the rooftop bar area. The lobby desk – made of black steel bars, stone and white oak – was an especially interesting challenge for the team to design and fabricate. A unique centerpiece of the project turned out to be the outside rooftop bar itself, which was made out of Ipe wood, a wood that is as heavy as concrete yet due to the resin within, is made to be everlasting in outdoor conditions.
